In alignment with the A Thousand Forests campaign, the Passionist Philanthropic Development Office (PPDO) started the year with a bang by successfully conducting the Adopt-A-Tree Project: Mangrove Tree Growing Program on January 30, 2025, at the Sarif Mucsin Boardwalk Eco-Tourism Park, Baluan, General Santos City.
The Passionist PDO team, in coordination with the Protected Area Management Office - Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (PAMO-SBPS), headed by PASu Cirilo A. Lagnason, Jr., Barangay LGU - Baluan, led by Hon. Dennis S. Besa, Coast Guard District Southern Mindanao - Operations (D-3) and Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group Southern Mindanao (MEPERG-SM), City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) - GENSAN, Passionist Technological Institute, Inc., Joji Ilagan International School of Hotel and Tourism Management - GENSAN, Passionist Youth - South Region, PNP Maritime - Region 12, and the Lower Baluan Fisherfolk Association, successfully planted 200 Avicennia marina and 100 Rhizophora mangle mangrove trees.
With God’s guidance, this is just the beginning of a meaningful greening campaign.
We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to Sir Raineir P. Tampus for sharing his valuable insights on the ecological importance of mangrove forests to both humans and marine organisms, as well as to all our partners and sponsors for their unwavering support!
