A Thousand Forests: Mangrove Tree Growing Activity

The Passionist Philanthropic Development Foundation, Inc. (PPDFI) spearheaded a meaningful environmental initiative through “A Thousand Forests: Mangrove Tree Growing Activity,” held at the Sarif Mucsin Boardwalk Eco-Tourism Park, Baluan, General Santos City. This activity was made possible through the generous support and collaboration of the Passionist Communities, including Holy Cross Parish, Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Parish, St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, the Catholic Mission to the Indigenous People, Passionist Youth – South Region, Holy Cross Spiritual Center, Notre Dame of Surala, Inc., and the Passionist priests and brothers.

The initiative was further strengthened by the participation of the Metro Dadiangas (MEDA) ParishesOur Lady of Fatima Parish, St. Michael the Archangel Parish, St. Francis of Assisi–Mabuhay Parish, Sto. Niño de Bula Parish, and Sts. Peter and Paul, Lagao Parish. Special thanks are also extended to the Knights of Columbus – Region XII KIDMACO, the Protected Area Management Office – Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (PAMO-SBPS), and the General Santos Doctors’ Medical School Foundation, Inc. for their invaluable support.

This environmental initiative forms part of the preparation for the 25th Anniversary of the PASS Province, highlighting the community’s enduring commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility.

Through this collective effort, 5,136 mangrove seedlings were successfully planted, marking a significant contribution to the celebration of the Season of Creation 2025. Beyond conservation, the activity served as an expression of faith and solidarity. By planting mangroves, participants helped restore and protect vital coastal ecosystems, combat climate change, prevent soil erosion, preserve biodiversity, and sustain local livelihoods.

Through initiatives such as this, PPDFI continues to inspire communities and parishes to embrace ecological actions that safeguard our common home for present and future generations.

Be Passionate for Christ, make blessings alive!
May the Passion of Jesus Christ be always in our hearts.
