March 24 was truly a day rooted in green purpose for the Passionist Community, alongside the Passionist Philanthropic Development Foundation Inc. team, led by Fr. Julito S. Villarente, CP โ Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) Ambassador, and Maโam Mary Grace Maceda โ JPIC Lay Ambassadress. The event also involved the Natural Resources Office (CENRO)โGenSan and Sir Nashron Bandan from the Lower Baluan Fisherfolk Association.
Over 80 participants from PSAC workers of South Region parishes, namely Holy Cross Parish, St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Parish, and the Holy Cross Spiritual Center Community, joined forces to successfully plant 1,653 Avicennia marina (bungalon) mangrove trees as part of the A Thousand Forests Campaign.
This activity was not just about caring for the environment, but also about fostering unity and shared purpose. By planting mangroves, participants contributed to protecting coastal areas, mitigating the effects of climate change, preventing erosion, supporting wildlife, and sustaining the livelihoods of local communities.
Through this collective effort, we hope to inspire more communities and parishes to take part in environmental initiatives that preserve and protect nature, for today and for generations to come.
